The engine runs really good and appears to be a newer than 1972 350, I don't know the history or mileage on the engine but it doesn't smoke, leak, or make abnormal noises. A one piece door glass conversion was done and the windows roll up and down very nice, it looks cool without the bulky factory vent window. The transmission hump is bare and not covered in carpet

This is a 2-owner 1956 Pontiac Chieftain 870 Catalina 4-door. This model was the second to the top model, (which was the Starchief). This car has 93,000 actual miles and a clean title that can be seen below in the Flickr along with 300 more pictures of this clean, classic Pontiac. This car was painted 20 years ago and was only caught in the rain one time during the 20 years and the 14,000 miles that were put on it during that time period. Nothing was touched up. The condition of this car is just amazing for its age. Mechanically, it starts, runs and drives 100%. It has newer tires on it, including the spare. It has all brand new brakes on it, front and rear. This car has a 4 speed automatic transmission, which means it shifts three times. It also has power steering and power brakes, which makes it very easy to drive. This is the way the factory built the car in 1956 and it works like a glove. It steers straight, and the exhaust has a bit of a "ting" in the sound, which is good. All options on this car work correctly, including the lights (high and low), turn signals, brake lights, horn and the wipers which were converted to electric. All windows work correctly and so do the vents. All the keys work on the car, inside and out. The engine on this car and transmission run and drive like new, and we see no leaks. It still has the marking on the firewall of the car that was put there when it was built new. The number can be seen on the firewall. The hood opens up easily because one control controls both locks, the main lock and the safety lock. This includes the paint on the dash, all the knobs, and the flooring. Twenty years ago when the car was redone they replaced the headliner and the visors were recovered. I took many pictures of the interior, which may also be seen in the Flickr. The trunk is 100% solid. It's amazing how nice the trunk really does look. Now, the best part about the car is the body condition. It's sitting with all the original chrome and aluminum on the vehicle. I see no rust, nicks, or bubbles anywhere on this car. I took so many pictures of the body of the car from every angle. I took pictures of the body in the sun, the shade and under lights in a garage. This car certainty attracts a lot of attention. If not, please pay careful a. AM/FM

The only mechanical issue I'm aware of is a oil drip from the rear main seal, I was advised by an old GM mechanic to just live with it because it is very difficult to get the old . The bottom of the car appears to have the original floor pans in good condition, the frame ahead of the rear bumper appears to have some repair done to it years ago. Repainted in the 90's but shows very well, very nice chrome and trim, The 389 V8 and auto trans work great with the power steering and power brakes

The engine is a Slant 6 with 3 speed but currently not running due to old fuel and weak battery but I have heard it run and these engine are bulletproof so I think with a fuel system tune up, it will be a dependable drive. I purchased the van to build a hot rod but other projects and time constraints are keeping me from doing so. The brakes will need inspected as well since its been in storage for several years of non use
